The best French
accent (not saying much
here), at least one by someone that isn't Jean Reno, comes from Brit, Emily Mortimer (Match Point, Formula 51), who does a fantastic job
as Clouseau's girl Friday of sorts, Nicole.
But it also mines his little - showcased talent for verbal dexterity, which Farrell is certainly most at home with when he can use his natural
accent,
as here, but which requires more than just an Irish passport to be able to pull off.
Writer / director Martin McDonagh - making his debut
here - has infused the majority of In Bruges with a deliberately - paced, overly talky sensibility that undoubtedly reflects his background
