Whippets belong to the dog breed group known
as sight hounds.
As a result of their agility in running and jumping the Pharaoh Hound excels in formal agility training and as a result of their status
as sight hounds they also do particularly well in lure coursing.
As sight hounds, Afghan Hounds have naturally svelte physiques, and their protruding hipbones are a unique breed characteristic, not a sign of being underweight.

as their name suggests, and are very fast
sight hounds.

Lost dogs find their way home by smelling and since a
sight hound does not have
as keen a sense of smell
as other breeds, a Greyhound that runs 40 miles per hour will be a long way away in a short period of time and may not be able to find his way home and back to his loved ones.

Anesthesia is always a risk in any breed, but Pharaoh
Hounds are not
as prone to problems
as many of their
sight hound cousins.
Both
hound types were selectively bred to hunt a wide variety of animals: Sighthounds were used to find and chase down large game such
as deer, elk, moose, and wild boar; small
hounds used scent to chase prey into the ground; and medium - sized
hounds utilized both
sight and scent for smaller game like rabbits and foxes.
