This is one of the best changes in the 2.0 patch,
as starbases» repair rates really allow it to hold off an invasion fleet alone.

There is potential for some fun to be had with Halcyon 6:
Starbase Commander,
as long
as you're willing to look past some pacing issues and an over-reliance on very repetitive combat.
Each
starbase will provide you with a bonus command,
as well
as aiding in space combat, counting toward hegemony resistance and acting
as somewhere to construct new ships.
Even when secondary objectives show up — such
as rescuing a
Starbase under attack — you're still taking part in the main goal.
The
starbases are equally good sources of technology
as the fleets while being much easier targets.
