There is some possibility that it could interfere with tylosin use (it interferes with some other antibiotics) so it would be a good idea not to give it at the same time
as the tylosin if you use both.
They also successfully tested the variants against macrolides that were not closely related to erythromycin, such

The most common side effects reported include pain at the injection site (when
Tylosin is used
as an injectible for respiratory infections only), anorexia, and diarrhea (when
Tylosin is used
as a powder for GI infections).

tylosin was discontinued and the dogs were monitored for a period of up to one month to determine whether signs of diarrhea would reappear,
as suggested by the clinical history.

Oxytet / Oxycare differs from
Tylosin,
as Oxytet / Oxycare must be given on an empty stomach (of 2 hrs).
Tylosin has also been used
as a feed additive in food animal production, and it has been shown to increase gain and feed efficiency, especially in pigs.
These studies have clearly shown that
tylosin has a favorable effect
as a supportive therapy on dogs with EPI.
This medication is very similar to erythromycin, and
as a result, if the patient is already on erythromycin,
Tylosin should not be used,
as cross-resistance has been shown to occur.
Tylosin is safe for long - term use and provides a good alternative to metronidazole, another bowel anti - inflammatory / antibiotic that is not
as amenable to long - term use.
These products contain an antibiotic,
tylosin tartrate, and is not recommended for long - term use
as this may create bacterial resistance.
You can try tolower the prednisone dosage by adding azathioprine (Imuran Rx)
as asecondary agent, or you might find that there is some success usingsulfasalazine (Azulfidine Rx) or
tylosin (Tylan Rx), although I am underthe impression that the latter two medications are not
as effective ineosinophilic inflammatory bowel disease
as in other forms.
Tylosin is available
as a powder which can be mixed with your pet's food, or it can be compounded by a special pharmacy into capsules which may be more readily accepted by your pet.
As with all prescribed medicines,
tylosin should only be given to the dog / cat for which it was prescribed.
