Their causes range from completely unpredictable events like volcanic eruptions (which have mainly local effects) to more regular phenomena such
as «El Niño» (a

tropical Pacific that occurs every three to five years, temporarily affecting weather world - wide).
As it skirts along the East Coast of Australia it carries a large amount of
warm tropical water from the equator southward.
The persistent upwelling of cold
water in the eastern
tropical Pacific would have reduced cloud cover there, via reduced oceanic evaporation, and thus allowed more of the sun's energy to enter the

warming process,

With a rise in the overall temperature of the ocean, ocean - borne storms such

Warm Period,
tropical waters in both the Atlantic13 and Pacific14 increased by
as much
as 1 °C
warmer than today.

water vapour condenses, releasing even more heat,» much like how a hurricane frees energy by drawing
warm humid air from its base (usually
tropical sea
water) and then releasing cold, wet air 7 miles (12 kilometers) up in the troposphere.

As mentioned above, highest surface densities in the world ocean are reached where
water is very cold, while lower densities are found in the saltier but
warmer tropical and subtropical areas.
This raises the temperature of the central and eastern
tropical Pacific
as the
warmer water travels to the east.
Hurricanes (Fig. 7) and other
tropical cyclones can be thought of
as heat engines that take energy in by evaporating
warm ocean
water, and eject it at a colder temperature near the tropopause after air rises and
water condenses in the eyewall [14].
