This is a question I am frequently
asked as a family lawyer and it is understandably a highly emotive issue between parents.
Not exact matches
Typically, with the help of an experienced
family lawyer, an attorney can
ask parties to try and agree on
as many things
as they can, because the more issues that are dissolved by way of the agreement, the less dispute and hardship there may be later.
So
as the public interest in the race starts to climb,
lawyers may find themselves
asked (in particular by friends and
family who fall into that middle - of - the - political - spectrum undecided group that determines the outcome of every election) to shed some light on the issues of the day.
A survivor can
ask health care professionals, therapists, police (if the perpetrator has been prosecuted),
family members, friends or
lawyer referral services (such
as the one sponsored by the Law Society of Upper Canada) to recommend a
lawyer.
On the other hand, it seems answering a slightly different question than what I
asked - you keep saying «well,
lawyer will is better if your situation isn't
as simple
as you say», but doesn't at all address the case that I
ask about, where the situation literally IS
as simple
as one says - no debts outside mortgage, no prior spouses, no
family members outside kids to contest the inheritance, no interstate assets, no assets with complex tax issues, etc...

The commentary on Ontario's Rule of Professional Conduct 4.01 (1) about a

lawyers believe fiercely that no holds are barred when representing someone, particularly in criminal matters and
family law.
Asking friends,
family members or other professionals who have hired a personal injury
lawyer or have an established relationship with a
lawyer can give you some insight into their capabilities but be mindful of the fact that getting a reference for a good
lawyer is not the same thing
as getting a reference for a good personal injury
lawyer.
Interview a few
family lawyers in your community who have the desired training and experience to assess which
lawyer is a good match for you
as a
family law client;
ask to be introduced to the
lawyer's legal assistant or paralegal; and insist on a written retainer agreement.»
The highway billboard casting a
lawyer as the champion of accident victims, the corporate
lawyer who uses a client's power and might to evade legal responsibilities, the
family lawyer who
asks irrelevant questions of an opponent's client for abusive purposes — these are not examples of our value
as a profession, but indeed sources of our emerging irrelevance.

as the unaffordable legal services problem grows smaller, the NSRLP should willingly evolve to provide the legal profession's counterpart to the
family doctor's sorting and triage service for the medical profession's sophisticated infrastructure of mutually interdependent support services — the NSRLP staff explaining how troubles contain legal problems, that very often are not apparent to the average person, and then finding the right
lawyer and legal service for every person
asking for its help.
