At a time when federal policy makers are rightfully
asking local educators and elected officials to take more ownership for how schools operate, community schools are becoming more important than ever.
As part of an intensive planning and self - study process, teams of parents,
educators, community members, and older students in each school received training from Institute for Responsive Education staff, then conducted focus groups and interviews with
local constituent groups,
asking these questions.

Tackling such deep structural inequities as segregation and resource allocation is likely necessary to really address school discipline disparities — lest we face yet another instance of
educators being
asked to throw
local solutions at systemic problems.
