All Drivers (Register Here)-- A driver improvement course is applicable when you are a Florida driver or if you are charged with a moving or non-moving traffic violation in Florida that would result in points being
assessed against your license (excludes criminal violations and commercial drivers charged with serious traffic violations with commercial vehicles).
The Clerk will withhold adjudication and points, if applicable, will not be
assessed against your license.
Driving school can prevent points from being
assessed against your license and stop insurance increases too.
If you receive a ticket for a civil traffic infraction, you must choose to either pay the violation, contest the ticket in court or pay the fine and elect traffic school to avoid tickets from being
assessed against your license within 30 days.
CDL drivers are not eligible to use this option to avoid having points
assessed against their license.
If you hold a commercial driver's license, you are not eligible to complete traffic school to prevent points from being
assessed against your license.
Failure to do so will result in points
assessed against your license, suspension of your license and additional fines and costs.
If you receive a civil traffic infraction such as careless driving or speeding, you must notify the clerk within 30 days of receiving the citation that you will either: pay the fine, plead not guilty, or elect to attend traffic school which will prevent points from being
assessed against your license.
Traffic school is a great option for drivers, but before you can select it to prevent points from being
assessed against your license, you must be sure you are eligible.
If you would like to complete traffic school to prevent points from being
assessed against your license, you will need to either make the election by properly filling out the School Election Affidavit or making the citation payment and election online.
You have three options to choose from in order to resolve the ticket: pay the civil penalty and allow points to be
assessed against your license, enter a plea of guilty or no contest where you will request a hearing before a county judge, or elect driving school.
Pay the ticket and elect a driver improvement course which will prevent points from being
assessed against your license
If you hold a commercial driver's license, have previously elected this option within the past 12 months, or have chosen to attend traffic school 5 times within your lifetime, you are not allowed to use this option to prevent points from being
assessed against your license.
You may attend a driver improvement course to prevent points from being
assessed against your license as long as you received a ticket for a non-criminal moving violation, do not hold a commercial driver's license, and have not elected this option 5 times within your lifetime.
Keep in mind that paying the fine (without attending traffic school) will result in points associated with the violation being
assessed against your license.
Before you can choose this option to prevent points from being
assessed against your license, you must check the eligibility criteria.
Moving violations often have points associated with the violation which will be
assessed against your license which can add up to a license suspension.
If you have been issued a moving traffic citation that doesn't require a mandatory court appearance, you may be qualified to attend a defensive driving course to prevent points from being
assessed against your license.
If you choose to attend a basic improvement course, you will pay a penalty but have no points
assessed against your license.
You can choose to pay the ticket and accept the points associated with the violation, request a court date to contest the ticket in front of a judge, or attend traffic school which will prevent points from being
assessed against your license.
Since not renewing your license is a non-moving violation, there are no points that will be
assessed against your license.
Points will be
assessed against your license and your auto insurance rates are almost certain to increase.
If you fail to meet the driver school election requirements, you will be adjudicated guilty of the offense and points will be
assessed against your license.
If you choose to pay the ticket without making a traffic school election, any points associated with the traffic violation will be
assessed against your license.
While it may seem easiest to simply pay the citation and be done with it, you should be wary of any points associated with the penalty that would be
assessed against your license.
