In order to become an eligible candidate to embrace the designation of a Registered Medical Assistant, a student should attend and successfully pass a medical
assisting set of courses
at a recognized training

accredited by either CAAHEP or ABHES.

accredited by the
Accrediting Bureau of Health Education
Schools (ABHES).
To become eligible to hold the title of RMA, a student must either pass a medical
assisting curriculum
at a
school that
accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), or possess a minimum of 5 years experience.
The medical
assisting program
at this
school was not CAAHEP or ABHES
accredited.
The course or program is administered or was developed as a part of the regular curriculum
at a
school of dentistry, dental hygiene or dental
assisting accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), its successor agency or any other nationally recognized
accrediting agency; or
After successfully completing training
at a medical assistant
school in Arizona, many graduates continue on to earn their medical
assisting certification from one of the top
accrediting organizations in the medical assistant field.
In most cases, those interested in obtaining a medical assistant certification will need to complete a degree program
at a
school that is
accredited in medical
assisting.
Approximately 350 programs offered
at community colleges, vocational / technical
schools, and other higher - learning institutions — including online medical
assisting programs — have been
accredited by CAAHEP, while over 100 programs in medical
assisting have earned accreditation from the ABHES.
