Review said publishers should not limit the supply of e-books in the same way that physical book loans are controlled, including the lending of each digital copy to one reader
at a time, securely removing
eBooks after lending and having digital books «deteriorate after a number of loans».
A chunk of the publishers I regularly cover in
Ebook Review Central will be
at the Conference.
But libraries can't look
at the first page of an
ebook before they buy it, and under the sales rank system they can't even choose according to the professional
review publications they have on file.
Since most indie
ebooks don't receive conventional
reviews, we're left with customer
reviews at retailers or
at Smashwords.com, and for poorly selling books, such
reviews are subject to gaming.
A few times a year I'll find myself in a conversation with Laura Brady or some other expert in the world of #eprdctn and I'll attempt to explain how different the world of EPUB /
ebook support looks when you
review content and identify support gaps
at a place like Kobo.
It's best to hold off on any
eBook giveaways or social media advertising until you get

reviews on your product page.

Review blog Abhi has been doing his usually fine job of following events in the Kindlesphere, and he turned his focus today on something we've been thinking about too: the effect of the Kindle Store's wildly popular Sunshine Deals promotion on
ebook prices generally.
However, people who buy
ebooks at regular price on Amazon, who buy them during the author's sales and promos on Amazon, and who «buy» them when they're temporarily offered for free on Amazon can all leaves
reviews for those book on Amazon, so
reviews alone are not any sort of incentive for keeping books in KU.

Some authors price their
eBooks at rock bottom, 99 cents, to promote volume, or even give away masses of books for free because, ultimately, a
review is worth more to your exposure and future profit than the.35 cents you might pocket today.
Its average rating is three and a half stars on Amazon — but
at least one reviewer blamed their one - star
review on what they see as a trend among Kindle
ebooks.
It may mean readings
at the public library, talking to friends about leaving
reviews on Good Reads, Amazon and other
ebook sales and
review sites.
Despite my admitted aspirations to be traditionally published someday, right now I AM an indie author, and I have to think that a lot of
ebook fans are going to be more likely to take a chance on my work, which has high ratings and good
reviews (thank you fans), and is reasonably priced
at $ 1, than they are to shell out more money for an
ebook than a full album costs.
The Kindle 3
review at CNet gets 4 out of 5 stars, noting that the Kindle's numerous upgrades vaults it to the top of the
ebook reader market, but the lack of expansion slots and EPUB support, among other things, keeps it from getting a five star rating.
Yet, that's a struggle without end
at such a rate, and this doesn't even include
eBooks which need more than a few lines for a correct
review.
So when kobo offered to send along the new Kobo Aura HD
eBook Reader for
review purposes, I jumped
at the chance.
«Please remember to leave a

ebook at Amazon» is bad, but «Please remember to leave a

at your favorite retailer» is great.

The recent survey conducted
at the Frankfurt Book Fair found that 60 % of the respondents did not have an ereader, and while I don't think everyone involved in book publishing actually needs to own one, I'd hope that any group distributing
ebooks would be able to
review them in the same way that their customers are receiving them.

But one San Francisco book publisher tells Boston
Review that Amazon can't continue to sell these
ebooks at a loss, warning «Eventually, they're going to change their minds on this...» And
at that point, it may not be Kindle owners who take a hit — but the publishers who are trying to sell their books
at Amazon.com
