By now the implications of a
theory of human
identity based on a
theory of asymmetrical temporal relations have been stated
at least implicitly.
Likewise, the
theory of purely external relations (in Buddhism, especially) starts with the legitimate insight that the qualification of personal
identity allows for
at least partial
identity with others.
Philosophy bristles with
theories of «wholes» and «parts,»
theories which reach from extreme atomisms (in which there are only parts, and wholes are
at best mere aggregates) to extreme monisms (in which putative parts lose their
identities to the whole).
