Daina Augaitis, curator of this exhibition, is the newly appointed Assistant Curator at the Walter Phillips Gallery in Banff, following a number of years as curator for Western Front and the Convertible Showroom in Vancouver.

His current installation, Oak Effect, at the Bloomberg Space, London, sees the gallery transformed into a fantastical showroom window housing a collection of ethnographic and design objects from the Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums Collection, displayed within a framework comprised of dining tables, worktops and nesting tables.
The space at the back of the Showroom [the London gallery where it was first shown] is this strange funnel shape, which made me think of a trompe l'oeil perspective of a tunnel.

From the tiny aluminium tablets which were shown throughout the Christchurch Art Gallery in 2006 as a part of the Out of Erewhon exhibition, to the bi-chromatic square panels exhibited recently at le Pavé d'Orsay in Paris, the «reasons» consistently underline the comprehension that, above all, a painting is an object to be appreciated in relation to others, and in the context of the physical space of the showroom.
