Like a
good student, I followed the recipe exactly and did not veer, but what happened was not
at all what I expected nor did my cookies look like Danielle's picture in the
cookbook.
Saturday night
at the NMBA Banquet, I was thrilled to learn that I had one won two awards,
Best Cookbook for Cuisines of the Southwest (Golden West Publishers), and
Best Novel — Adventure or Drama for Avenging Victorio (Rio Grande Books).
I have some
cookbooks at home that I've gone through and marked up as
well as looking
at what I have on hand and googling some of the ingredients.
This dish is inspired by a recipe of the same name from a River Café
cookbook and is one which exemplifies simplicity
at its
best.
