improve as scientists tinker on
climate models, said Adam Sobel, a

improve climate models, which account poorly for these atmospheric interactions and contain «horrific» uncertainties about the levels and behaviour of water vapour
at stratospheric altitudes, Austin says.

climate models.

at the Met Office, we're really focused on two aspects of
improving climate models.

Hosted by Leora Wolf - Prusan, Ed.D. (School
Climate & Student Support Specialist
at WestEd) and Lara Kain (Senior Director of Transform Schools
at Los Angeles Education Partnership), this webinar covers the foundation of what a trauma - informed instructional
model means, the competencies that are most critical for all teachers to know, and how school leaders can best support their staff in leveraging this powerful
model to
improve outcome for all kids.
Concerning
climate - change forecasting, we can not expect that increased computer power and
improved climate models will in the future «give more precise probability distributions of outcomes
at the regional and decadal scales».
Given that
models have been
improving in their ability to
model processes, I personally find it difficult to believe that,
at least in terms of a Bayesian analysis, the
models themselves aren't doing better in terms of their ability to identify
climate sensitivity by applying first principles to our
climate system.
Improving the representation of feedbacks in
climate models, and checking them against observations, is probably the most important area of
climate modelling research
at present.

There are some source of predictability that are still not fully resolved (including those dealing with
improving climate models, but also related to unexplored initial conditions or driving conditions), and a great benefit of these predictability studies is that they mimic the practice of weather prediction by confronting
models with observations
at the relevant time and spatial scales, leading to the necessary inspiration for this
model improvement.
Tracking sea surface temperature over a long period is arguably the most reliable way researchers know of measuring the precise rate
at which global temperatures are increasing and
improves the accuracy of our

models and weather forecasts.
Adding local information, not captured in the coarse scale
climate model or observational archives, can provide an
improved representation of the relevant processes
at this scale, and thus yield additional information, for instance concerning topography, land use or small scale features such as sea breezes or organisation of convection.

climate data with new satellite readings and an
improved model of the
climate system to demonstrate that ice sheets can melt
at a «non-linear» rate: rather than an incremental melting as Earth's poles inexorably warm, ice sheets might melt
