The relationship between body mass index (BMI), fat, and cancer development has previously been studied, with postmenopausal women found to be
at increased risk for breast cancer as their BMI increases.
The investigators also found that women who took DES appear to be
at increased risk for breast cancer, while women exposed to DES in the womb showed an increased risk of breast cancer after age 40.
