Just a little note but it was not the passover
meal Jesus was having it was the Last supper
at that point in
time and by the word it was command that no yeast was to be within the house for passover
so the last supper it the last day to eat yeast bread and to eat all of it
so that the house was clean.
So I began to think about what it means to be alive and began to really pray for perhaps the first
time in my life (other than those prayers
at meal time and the «Now I lay me down to sleep» prayer
at night).
I'm the community care leader
at our church
so if a mama has a new baby or someone falls on rough
times, that's us, we do the simple work of making
meals.
This is one of my favourite dinners to make
at this
time of year, it's
so warming and hearty and works perfectly for a simple, quick
meal.

The
meal options I came up with had to be: # 1 things that would be fairly easy to prepare (I wasn't about to take an extra hour on Sunday to make something elaborate), # 2 had to be foods I could easily manipulate the nutritional profile for (ensuring a balance of protein, carbs, and fat), # 3 the food had to store well in the fridge or freezer, # 4 they had to reheat well in either the toaster or microwave OR be eaten cold right from the fridge, and # 5 ideally, they needed to be things she could easily eat in the car on the way to school (remember, it takes us
at least 20 minutes with no traffic to get to school
so eating in the car gives us even MORE
time to sleep lol).
So, if you're short on
time and are looking for a convenient way to cook red beans for one or if you're working during the day and want to come home to a fabulous
meal at the end of your day, this slow cooker red beans and rice recipe is ideal for you.
That just doesn't fly when you have a toddler that wants to eat
at 5 pm on the dot
so this
time I concentrated on
meals that I could pull out of the freezer and pop right into the oven or slow cooker.
It was also dished up on a night when we were eating
at different
times,
so I prepped the soup portion of the
meal early in the day, cooked the pasta separately and tossed it with olive oil to prevent sticking, and then kept it
at room temperature until it was
time to eat.
When there are
so many other things to pack into a single weeknight, spending any longer than that to get a
meal on the table is definitely a little daunting
at times.
I know some people have goals this new year to eat more
meals at home, to eat healthier, or to spend less money on takeout,
so this is a perfect
time to share this recipe — it can take care of all three of those!
It's one of those things I keep on hand in the freezer
at all
times so if I need a comforting / impressive / delicious
meal, I pull out a Ragù alla Bolognese in like no
time flat!
The menu is only set
so far in advance,
so you can only skip
so many recipes
at a
time and then eventually you reach a point where the upcoming menu /
meal option are not known and
so you can't mark them as «skipped».
So some of these
meals might not happen or they might happen
at a different
time of the day!
I don't really have a go - to
meal because I cook in batches to male 6 - 8
meals at a
time,
so then all I have to do is nuke and nom.
The girls also get to work on the shrimp — this
time we chose shrimp that are already cleaned with the shells off, but most
times, its less expensive to buy the shrimp that aren't cleaned or shelled yet and the girls really enjoy helping out,
so not only does it save money but it builds a skill for them
at the same
time and they are proud to help out with the
meal!
My boyfriend also isn't a fan of spicy food,
so lots of
time I end up adding heat to just my portion of the
meal,
at the end of cooking.
Something my family cooked that has stuck with me is lentil burgers and vegetarian food!Mum was into whole foods and was was referred to
at the
time as hippy food
so we ate mostly vegetarian
meals, but unlike some people who had a bad experience with vegetarian food growing up, mine was amazing!
From there we've got
at least two
meals of leftovers,
so the rotation goes first into chicken and black bean quesadillas, then into homemade pizza, and snacks for those
times when dinner is running too late.
As I said above, all the elements here will last about three days in the fridge
so you can use them in other
meals or pack a few lunches
at a
time.
I try to eat
at least a few
meals of fish each week and am able to get great herbs
at the farmer's market this
time of year,
so I turned to my Magic Bullet to create a quick, easy and delicious salmon dinner.
So it's just me in my family whose vegan
at the moment, they don't know it but eventually I will only be cooking vegan
meals at home, it's a
time of transition.
At the same
time, I had to replenish my post workout
meal (aka sweet potatoes)
so I baked these in the oven in 425 °F for about 45 minutes after brushing them with avocado oil.
Anyways, I substituted almond
meal in my zucchini cake recipe, and o.m.g., I have never tasted a cake

So a turkey is what I cooked when I hosted Friendsgiving
at my friends home, marking only the second
time I have ever cooked a Thanksgiving
meal and both
times in someone else's kitchen.
We don't typically eat vegetarian

I made half of them for now and froze 6 breadsticks before baking them to enjoy

so they will be fresh when we have them with another

But Aldo prefers eating a real
meal for dinner,
so hummus has been demoted back down to a snack food in our house,
at least around dinner
time.
I like to cook two squashes
at a
time,
so that I have an extra one to use for a quick future
meal!
After all, the fast speeds of people's lives, and therefore the fast speeds
at which they eat (
so fast, indeed, that some people are losing the memory of a real «square»
meal, a «sit down»

I have a hard
time getting
time in my day
at work to pump,
so when I do I still need to eat my
meal and do some computer work (i'm a nurse on a busy surgical floor).
