I'm in the camp that baulks
at pearl barley (although it reminds me of the duty food I made from old vegetarian recipes when I first gave up meat).

Thanks also for answering a previous poster's question on farro substitute — I'm completely unfamiliar with farro, and don't think I've ever seen it
at my local organic foods co-op — but I'm quite sure I can get
pearled barley.
Have a look in the bin section
at Whole Foods, if they don't happen to carry the wheat berries
at that particular location, go for something similar -
barley,
pearl barley, a plump whole grain rice, etc..
To be eligible to make the claim, the food must contain
at least one gram of β - glucan per serving from dehulled or hulless
barley,
pearled barley,
barley flakes, grits, meal, flour, bran or β - glucan - enriched milling fractions.
(I couldn't find grano - even
at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's - so I used
pearled barley instead per the recipe's suggestion).
Calories come in
at 354 per cup of food and the first three ingredients are chicken, chicken meal, cracked
pearled barley.
