Moreover, the unique events relevant to theology, the genuine intuition of religious experience, and revelation - theological

at the door to the sanctuary of the intellect (even though the immediacy of Being, analogous to the Holy Spirit in a Christian sanctuary is supposed to be present in intuition), and it is in the moment of genuflection that the idea of logical necessity infiltrates metaphysics and becomes an unhappy resident alien.

So ingrained was the non-Christian Aristotelian framework of reality in the theological discourse of the Church
at the time, that it proved difficult to conceive letting go of it and to use a different cosmology (Copernican) as a new paradigm

But when others appear to have arrived
at a place where forgiveness and adoption are sensed and valued, even when these things are not directly spoken of in the language of another faith's mainstream
reflection, are we to say that God has not found a path
for himself?
Some of the specific stimuli of my sober
reflections have been the histories of the fiendishly diverse injustices, cruelties, tyrannies and butcheries human beings have inflicted on one another — in particular the long, appalling story of Jewish suffering
at the hands of Christian Europe with its insane climax under the Nazis; Camus's searing
reflections on our blood - soaked century; accounts of the horrors of plagues and epidemics
at whose complete mercy human beings
for so long existed; and insights of depth psychology into the character and influence of the unconscious, childhood and repression in our behavior.
A higher state of consciousness diffused through the ultra-technified, ultra-socialized, ultra-cerebralized layers of the human mass, but without the emergence (neither necessary nor conceivable)
at any point in the system of a universal, defined and autonomous Center of
Reflection: this, by the first hypothesis, is all we are entitled to look
for or desire as the eventual highest end of hominization.
Today, however, the central model
for understanding the idea of revelation has shifted to a more «personal» one,
at least in most important theological
reflection.
But that a man can become a martyr, if he ought to be a witness to the end, can not be derived from a purely juridical
reflection,
for in a trial it is not the witness whose life is
at stake but the accused.
This
reflection process need not be
at explicitly conscious levels
for its effectiveness; it is enough that one has absorbed the institutional purpose to whatever degree into the internal structures of one's identity, and then, in the naturalness of a relational world, woven that purpose into the projections of one's own influence upon others.
Also honored were James Cone, who offered impassioned
reflections on praxis and the experience of the oppressed, and Chung Hyun Kyung, the Korean professor who had caused such a stir
at the Canberra meeting of the World Council of Churches, who again called
for the fusing of liberation thought with indigenous shamanism and a large dose of romantic naturalism.

I will only recall that, by virtue of its convergent nature, hominization is scarcely conceivable (seen from the point
at which we find ourselves) except as terminating, whatever road it follows, in a point of collective
reflection where Mankind, having achieved within and around itself, technically and intellectually, the greatest possible coherence, will find itself raised to a higher critical point — one of instability, tension, inter-penetration and metamorphosis — coinciding, it would seem, with what
for us are the phenomenal limits of the world.
