I was starry - eyed
at the thought of one last little
baby to treasure, one last time to experience pregnancy, birth,
nursing, all of it.
At the hospital, the pretty young
nurse with false eyelashes tells me solemnly that they don't really recommend swaddling for
babies anymore — «we like for them to self - soothe,» she says.
She is sleeping well
at this point and is
nursing like a champ — well, or like a gigantic 10 lbs 7 oz
baby!
This morning in my chair with my littlest girl curled up against me,
nursing, and my Bible laid open, I read, «Can a mother forget the infant
at her breast, walk away from the
baby she bore?
Oh, please, «musings» and the other nitwit who replied... I am talking about a professional who dragged her
baby around as a statement -
at WORK - and purposely
nursed the child - without trying to cover anything - in front of people in order to make them uncomfortable.
There is a hungry
baby, blinking eyes
at the light of life and a mama longing to
nurse, open mouths and wonder
at what you have just done, arms that suddenly don't feel quite attached to our body unless there is that little person in them.
Getting up
at night, they lull the
baby asleep like
nurses, and though they are ashamed of themselves they wash the clothes like washer - women.9

baby A's dresser / changing table
at Ikea, and we went to Target for random items, including some
nursing clothing and postpartum care items (ice - packs, giant pads, lots of energy bars for quick snacks, etc).
It means that I can
nurse at night without having to get out of bed and it also gives me more time to connect with and be close to my
baby, who I miss so much during the day.
At that point I started having guilty feelings that
baby # 2 and I had never had an exclusive
nursing relationship, so I initiated weaning with the 33 month old.
I did not have a bad opinion about mothers who
nursed for long time, but I thought that I will be done by 12 months... Well our son didn't think so;)... He
nursed exclusively and constantly until 8 months old,
at this stage he would start accepting some
baby food (mind u, he was allways in the 95 % of weight).
My daughter was weaned
at 2 years and 5 months old and I can not WAIT to
nurse the next
baby!
But considering when out and about I see way, way more
babies getting bottles than being
nursed, and the stats that show the majority of moms use bottles and formula
at some point, I have to wonder, WHO is giving the judgmental looks to bottlefeeding moms??? The tiny minority who manage to exclusively breastfeed?
At the end of my pregnancy, I remember every night I would lay down for some quiet, cuddle time to
nurse Ava before bed, she would hold onto
baby (put her hand on my belly), and I would wonder if it would be our last night together just the two of us before her
baby brother would join us.
The tube is taped onto the woman's breast, allowing the
baby to
nurse at the breast and receive expressed breast milk, formula, glucose water, etc.
at the same time.
Hmmm... every time I have flown with my
baby, he was
nursing... or had just fallen asleep after
nursing, so I didn't hold him the way I was suppose to for take - off... but you know — when a
baby has just fallen asleep on a plane, you do NOT want to move the child
AT ALL for fear that he'll wake up!
The arrival of a
baby brother
at age 3 was made easier due to tandem
nursing — she breastfed us together for 2 years.
As with the
Baby Care Center
at Magic Kingdom, there is a main lounge with high chairs, tables, toys and movies, a
nursing room, and a change room.
You may have a calm or colicky
baby, an in - home
baby nurse, or no help
at all, a partner who was born to be a mother, or one who struggles with her own transition.
I might not have had that horrible surgical experience, might have been able to hold my
baby sooner than 8 hours after birth, would not have had my system pumped full of drugs I'm allergic to, and would have been able to
nurse my
baby, instead of the uneducated hospital staff shoving bottles
at him.
I
nurse the
baby in bed in the morning and its our very special time because I work 3 - 11 and my husband works 11 - 7 so around 8:30 is magical
at our house.
The women who ran the store looked
at me, doing my thing (supporting my large breast so as not to suffocate my kid, while cradling the
baby's head with the other), and said «you know, we have foam wedges that can help large breasted women
nurse».
I sometimes resent that my
baby nurses and so frequently
at that.
My water was broken for me
at 12:30 and my MOTHER delivered the
baby at 2:30 because the doctor (and
nurses) were not in the room when he decided to make his entrance.
This means totally hands - on with your
baby under the guidance of the experts - the
nurses - for 3 + days (other guys only get 1), then showing mom how to care for the
baby at home (a major boost to her confidence in you).
She settled
at around 3 am,
at 5 am
baby vomits all over bed,
nurses, barfs again.
And thereby your patience with having to
nurse your
baby for every nap and every time he wakes up
at night will start to diminish.
Resume feeding your
baby on demand though i can understand this is time consuming
at her age but this too will get less lengthy the older she gets and the more she is used to
nursing.
Sometimes,
babies will simply go on a «
nursing strike» and it may not be related to their readiness to begin eating solid foods
at all.
To do this, you could use a Supplemental
Nursing System (a silicone tube attached to a reservoir of a supplement which is attached directly to the breast, so that the
baby gets the supplement
at the breast as he also draws out your milk).
As
baby grows and gets more efficient
at eating, the
nursing sessions begin to follow an expected pattern, and the formula feeding tends to get spaced out a little (though the amount per feeding is increased).
On one occasion, before he was able to feed
at the breast, a
nurse appeared with a bottle of formula for the
baby, ignoring the container of pumped milk that Esmaralda had worked so hard to get.
One recent study in the «Journal of Clinical Epidemiology» showed that women who
nursed babies for
at least 25 months total of their own life had a decreased risk compared to mothers who did not
nurse.
But if the thought of a monochrome hospital room and rotating
nurses makes you long for your own cozy and familiar belongings — consider having your
baby at home.
You can continue to feed your
baby as much as you are able, and add in formula
at the end of every
nursing session.
I love to sit tailor - style on the couch and the Bobby put my
baby at just the right height for
nursing with no strain on my arms or back.
We have also started her on cereal and
baby food twice a day (after I
nurse her
at 10 am and 6 pm).
Once you are ready to dive in, you will probably find that you have to wake one
baby to
nurse them
at the same time, which can feel like sacrilege.
If that's the case, the
baby probably isn't getting a mouthful of breast
at the start of the
nursing session.
If
baby is unable to effectively
nurse at the breast.

If someone else feeds
baby when you would be
nursing her be sure to pump
at that time but try as much as possible to have her
at the bresat so she can continue to build up your supply.

For breastfeeding to be successful, you will need to
nurse your
baby frequently and sometimes
at a moment's notice.
Depending on the
baby's age, efficiency
at the breast, the mom's let down speed and her overall milk supply,
nursing could take as little as 5 minutes to complete.
There's a rigid piece
at the neck that bows out from your body, so you have a direct view to your
baby while you're
nursing.
Some find they need to
nurse after solids, but do keep in mind that
at this age, the breastmilk is still the most important part of your
baby's meal, so eating more breastmilk and fewer solids is not bad.
