Albedo modification might also work by using aerosols to seed cloud formation in a lower
atmospheric layer called the troposphere.

To investigate the
layers and composition of clouds and tiny airborne particles like dust, smoke and other
atmospheric aerosols,, scientists at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland have developed an instrument
called the Cloud - Aerosol Transport System, or CATS.
The whole issue is that any level above what is often
called the «effective radiating level» (say, at ~ 255 K on Earth) should start to cool as
atmospheric CO2 increases, since the
layers above this height are being shielded more strongly from upwelling radiation... except not quite, because convection distributes heating higher than this level, the stratosphere marks the point where convection gives out and there is high static stability.
Water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide — the so -
called greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the Earth's atmosphere - create a natural «greenhouse effect» by «trapping» heat between the Earth's surface and the Troposphere (the
atmospheric layer 5 to 10 miles above the surface).
This is
called a «two -
layer» model, with the two
layers being the surface and the
atmospheric shell.
