This presentation will discuss the psychological, physiological, and neurological effects of early trauma and
attachment disturbances on children.
Although the occurrences of
severe attachment disturbance such as Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) or Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder (DSED) are rare, these disturbances emanate from circumstances of severe neglect that they periodically encounter in their work.
Attachment Interventions (Child & Adolescent) are defined by the CEBC as those interventions developed for the treatment of children and adolescents with a diagnosis or symptoms of a severe
attachment disturbance such as Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) or Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder (DSED).
Target Population: Children and adolescents from 1 to 18 years of age who
experience attachment disturbances due to maltreatment, abuse, neglect, multiple home placements, and violence
A severe
attachment disturbance includes symptoms such as lack of seeking out a specific caregiver when it would be expected (e.g., when hurt)[RAD] and willingness to seek comfort from or show «overly familiar» behavior toward strangers [DSED].
Past studies have found significant links between higher levels of CU traits and more difficult parent — child relationships [14, 17], and child attachment disturbances [18, 19, 20].
Dr. David Elliott is a Harvard - trained psychologist, co-author of
