I'm a little pessimistic, because faculty members come out of graduate schools with a loyalty to a particular field, and it's very hard to get their
attention or arouse their passion for larger sets of problems, such
as pedagogy or the
reform of theological
education.
In an era of widespread disagreement on
education reform, increased confidence in local control of
education, and the absence of a dominant theory on where
reform goes from here, visionary mayors are emerging
as leaders of thought and action in defining a new role for municipalities to play in developing and educating young people, with particular

In the past two decades, however, schools have undergone a period of constant
reform and restructuring, and the talk surrounding public
education has become mean - spirited and antagonistic, giving greater
attention to vouchers, «choice,» charter schools, and winner - take - all high - stakes tests
as the only viable solutions to the crisis in public
education.
One reason D.C.'s
education reforms attracted significant
attention across the country was their timing: DCPS started using IMPACT to evaluate teachers during the 2009 — 2010 school year, just
as the
education reform organization The New Teacher Project (TNTP) released a report recommending that districts develop evaluation systems that rate teachers «based on their effectiveness in promoting student achievement.»
The result of all of this work is emerging
as The California Way, which builds on a collaborative team approach to positive
education change and is now attracting national
attention as an alternative to test - driven
reform.
