Every time I speak with
an audience about diversity, I get the same question: How do we do it?

From the pulpit of a church, speaking to a live
audience about religious
diversity, Obama sarcastically belittled America's Judeo - Christian heritage and degraded its adherents with trite remarks typical of any atheistic antagonist, saying things like: «Whatever we were, we are no longer a Christian nation,» «The Sermon on the Mount is a passage that is so radical that our own defense department wouldn't survive its application» and «To base our policy making upon such commitments as moral absolutes would be a dangerous thing.»
Radio provided an illusion of «knowing»
about an event when in reality the
audience was given no chance at all to question the situation, to participate in discussion, or to hear a wide
diversity of opinions
about it.
Given the increased
diversity, selectivity, and competitiveness which cable brings in the choice of programs, it is unlikely that the movement of syndicated programming into cable will bring
about a radical increase in the
audience of religious programs.
One thing I love
about CCDA is that we intentionally represent this
diversity of perspective and demographics at the board level, in the conference
audience, and among both workshop and keynote speakers.
But we're living in the #OscarsSoWhite era, when
audiences care
about diversity in entertainment to the point of demanding it.
As you approach your work, try to think
about the
diversity in your potential
audience.
As we all know, the people who write on the Internet
about comics are a tiny, tiny, tiny portion of the
audience, and while they often clamor for
diversity and Marvel responds to them, is there a large influx of young women, minorities, queer, and trans people going into comics shops and buying those diverse titles or at least getting them digitally or in trade?
