"Augmentative communication" refers to any method or tool that helps individuals who have difficulty speaking or understanding speech to communicate. It helps them express themselves and understand others using different techniques such as sign language, picture cards, or electronic devices.

The Oakland Unified School District's TACLE (Technology and
Augmentative Communication for Learning Enhancement) program provides disabled students with technology tools that facilitate learning and communication.
