Compared with intermittent
auscultation, continuous cardiotocography
showed no significant improvement in overall perinatal death rate (risk ratio (RR) 0.86, 95 % confidence interval (CI) 0.59 to 1.23, n = 33,513, 11 trials), but was associated with a halving of neonatal seizures (RR 0.50, 95 % CI 0.31 to 0.80, n = 32,386, nine trials).
With Kalou being a Doberman, there is a 44 % chance (according to one study) of him having dilated cardiomyopathy; there may or may not be sounds during
auscultation, but an x-ray of his chest would
show heart enlargement.
