An almost unknown fact to most new self - publishing
authors is that the book
marketing should begin long
before the book is published, not after the book becomes available.
From there, it's only a matter of time
before an independent
author blows the top off of the science fiction or fantasy
markets and does it without the help of a major house.
Yes, they do light editing (but expect the
author to have a round already completed
before submission); yes they do the cover design and back cover copy (it doesn't mean that you will like, much less love it); yes, they do the interior design (ditto here); and no, they don't do much in
marketing (they expect you be the lead and underwriter of any campaign).
However, every Indie
author needs to assess their business plan
before spending money on listing services and
marketing.
