The manual is nothing like as bad as Mercedes manuals of years ago but the C - class is better
suited to the
auto gearboxes.
That said, the eight - speed ZF
auto gearbox works well in practice and the exhaust, dampers and drive train maps can all be tailored to
suit your mood individually.
The manual
gearbox is well - weighted and pleasing to use, so while the
auto isn't bad it isn't ideally
suited to this engine choice.
There's an available six - speed manual
gearbox, but my tester was equipped with the six - speed
auto — and it's well -
suited to the car's character.
Surprisingly, it's more economical with the S tronic
gearbox than the manual — and a large executive car like this is naturally better
suited to an
auto anyway — so if you can afford the # 1,500 or so extra, it's well worth it.
