In challenging lighting conditions, an

mode appears to kick in, significantly boosting dynamic range and producing
photos with plenty of detail in both light and dark areas.
In testing it on

mode, however, I found it turned out
photos that varied wildly in quality.
This is fine if all you intend to do is use the G5's
auto camera
mode to take
photos, but for everything else, including adjusting capture settings like aperture, shutter speed and ISO, you'll still need to change those options via the phone's touchscreen.
Double tap the home button and the camera app loads up impressively quickly, meaning you're less likely to miss a shot, and the
auto mode does a great job of adjusting the settings so you get the best
photo.

Photos and videos are eye pleasing, and outdoor viewing is better than average in
auto brightness
mode.
In our time with the phone, we found that the
photos shot with the
auto mode came out highly detailed with accurate colors and contrast.
A few examples that you'll see on the next page are over-exposed in
auto mode, but that is easily remedied by the manual
mode - that is, if you have the patience to adjust the settings for each
photo.
The camera app is easy to use and supports
auto photo, spot color, panorama, depth enabled, face filters, and professional
modes.
HDR can be on
auto when shooting in the normal
photo mode, and it does a good job of enhancing the
photo.
This means that no matter the situation you can have a
mode that's available to shoot a better
photo, but the
auto mode works extraordinarily well in most situations as it is.

The
auto mode is most likely what most will use when they are going to take a
photo or video.
Panorama functions will show you a preview of your
photo as you take it, and even the
auto mode has basic sliders you can tweak up and at the top of your screen.
It's also worth noting that these
photos also appear to all have been taken in
auto mode.
That doesn't even account for the slow speed of the app, which takes an eternity in even medium light conditions to get a
photo captured with HDR (there is also no HDR
Auto mode).
