Flu
vaccines can be trivalent —
containing two strains of influenza A and one of influenza B — or quadrivalent — including two strains of A and two of B. Both are
available to fight influenza.
The majority of
vaccines available contained inactivated A (H1N1) pdm09 influenza virus rather than live virus.
There are several different types of combinations
vaccines available, and the individual components vary; they usually
contain the core group of
vaccines or the core with one or two other
vaccines.
Three readily
available vaccines include: Galaxy Pv (a shot
containing only parvovirus, offering 7 + years of immunity) and Galaxy D (a shot
containing only distemper, giving 5 or more years of immunity).
Single Parvovirus
vaccines are
available (ie they ONLY
contain parvovirus), but Distemper is only
available when combined with other core
vaccines, such as Parvo and Adenovirus.
Currently
available vaccines do not
contain all serovars, and duration of immunity is probably about 1 year.
But until now, the only
vaccines available to our four - legged friends
contained killed or inactive viruses of the two canine influenza virus strains affecting them — the H3N8 and H3N2.
There is
available a second
vaccine that
contains the additional serovars of Leptospira should you feel your pet is at a higher risk.
