«During the latter stage of the bull market culminating
in 1929, the public acquired a completely different attitude towards the investment merits of common stocks... Why did the investing public turn its attention from dividends, from asset

Their portfolio simulation approach: (1) is restricted to the technology, industrials, health care, financials and basic materials sectors; (2) assumes an extreme sentiment day for a stock has at least four novel news items (prior to 3:30 PM

Between August 2016 and July 2017, these trends showed the highest

Results suggest that while isotretinoin was associated with a

Under midrange projections for economic growth and technological

In any case, he says, if life

Third, using a «semi-empirical» statistical model calibrated to the relationship between temperature and global sea - level
change over the last 2000 years, we find that,
in alternative histories
in which the 20th century did not exceed the
average temperature over 500-1800 CE, global sea - level rise
in the 20th century would (with > 95 % probability) have been less than 51 % of its observed
value.

We measured

And the size of the
change in test scores across these consecutive cohorts should correspond to the
change in the
average value added across all teachers
in the grade.
Consequently, the loss of a teacher with high
value - added would not affect
average achievement, since removing that teacher would have no
change on the cohorts, and since cohort - to - cohort
changes in achievement would be smaller than that predicted by
value - added.
This ignores the fact that students are not randomly assigned to teachers, that some students are much more difficult to teach than others, that small
changes in student composition can have a large effect on the
average scores a teacher achieves, and that recent analyses of
value - added models have shown that as many as 20 % of the teachers
in the top group one year are
in the bottom group the next year.

Some possible areas for improvement (beyond
changing the

[Response: While the raw data at any one station at any one time obviously doesn't
change, the
value for any regional or global
average in the past is always an estimate since there isn't a perfect network of measurements across the whole area.
There is no modelling of any orbital variations
in incoming energy, either daily, yearly or long term Milankovitch variations, based on the assumption that a global yearly
average value has a net zero
change over the year which is imposed on the energy forcing at the TOA and the QFlux boundary etc..
However, the variations
in the
averages of the model GMT
values are quite wide, and indeed, are larger than the
changes seen over the last century, and so whether this matters needs to be assessed.
C is not constant for the dT» / dt equation to apply because heat penetrates through different parts of the climate system (different depths of the ocean
in particular) over different time scales (also, if T» is supposed to be at some reference location or the global
average at some vertical level, T» at other locations will vary; C will have to be an effective C
value, the heat per unit
change in the T» at the location (s) where T» occurs)
So the intensity of radiation (at some frequency and polarization)
changes over distance, such that,
in the direction the intensity is going, it is always approaching the blackbody
value (Planck function) for the local temperature; it approaches this quickly if the absorption cross section density is high; if the cross section density is very high and the temperature doesn't vary much over distance, the intensity may be nearly equal to the Planck function for that location; otherwise its
value is a weighted
average of the Planck function of local temperature extending back over the path
in the direction it came from.
For example, if this contribution were to grow linearly with global
average temperature
change, the upper ranges of sea level rise for SRES scenarios shown
in Table SPM - 3 would increase by 0.1 m to 0.2 m. Larger
values can not be excluded, but understanding of these effects is too limited to assess their likelihood or provide a best estimate or an upper bound for sea level rise.
For example, the latest (fifth) assessment report from the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change (IPCC) projects that the global
average sea level rise over the course of the 21st century would be
in the range of 10 to 32 inches, with a mean
value of about 19 inches.
Present estimates are that limiting the increase
in global
average surface temperature to no more than 2 — 2.5 °C above its 1750
value of approximately 15 °C will be required to avoid the most catastrophic, but certainly not all, consequences of climate
change.
So the temperature of a station (or nearby stations) reported this month can
change the
average value that is used to «fill» missing
values in the past.
Average Annual Percent Change (Coal): The average annual percent change over a period of several years that is calculated by taking the nth root [where n is the number of years in the period of interest] of the result of the current year's value divided by the value of the first year of the period; this result then has 1 (one) subtracted from it and that result is then multiplied

From the figures I took an
average value of 0.45 — but, hey, if you prefer to assume 0.35, that's OK, because it will not
change the conclusion that the observed Arctic sea ice melt has not appreciably
changed our planet's total albedo, and that a very small
change in cloud cover would have a far greater effect.
As someone who is not well versed
in the methods discussed above by Paul Dunmore, HAS, Nebuchadnezzar, and Pekka, I would like input from any of them on what they presume might be the
value of estimating global temperature
changes in a manner not involving the grids or other forms of local
averaging.
Only a few studies have attempted to assign a specific

The fourth

In that case, the cumulative sum of the yearly
average changes should produce a time - series expressing the total departure from the initial
value.
Correct me if I'm wrong: your charts show the yearly
average value of daily
changes in Tmax or Tmin at land stations only.
And thirdly, a simple empirical adjustment to the
average of a large family of models, based upon observed
changes in temperature, yields a warming range of 1.3 - 3.0 °C, with a central
value of 1.9 °C.
