Using these thousands of sonar images, scientists got a detailed view of the oil jet's cross section, and by multiplying these average oil areas by
average velocities measured, they could estimate how much oil and gas were released.

According to Kusenko and Segre, a difference of just 1 per cent in the total momentum of neutrinos emerging in either direction would result in a kick, or «recoil
velocity», that is consistent with the
measured average pulsar
velocity of 500 kilometres per second.

More precisely, it is a
measure of the
average velocity of the particles in matter (see § XIII.G).

averaging over time, you can also get the
