While it is impossible to avoid phthalates completely, we can drastically decrease our exposure by avoiding plastics to the best of our ability, especially in the kitchen (replace plastic storage containers with glass ones),
avoiding synthetic fragrances (assume that any product that lists «fragrance,» «perfume» or «parfum» as an ingredient contains the chemical), purchase phthalate - free makeup, eat organic whenever possible (to avoid phthalates in pesticides), and finally, by avoiding the use of scented candles and air fresheners with synthetic scents (pure essential oils are a healthier alternative).

Some of the main ingredients I learnt to
avoid (when possible) were chlorine bleach, chlorine, ammonia, lots of
synthetic fragrances, phosphates and phthalates as they can be really harsh on the environment and your skin, and they can be carcinogenic too.
Other commonly used ingredients to generally
avoid include Disodium EDTA, mineral oil and
synthetic fragrance — the list goes on!
Avoid ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulphates (SLS), propylene glycol, isopropyl, mineral oils,
synthetic colours and
fragrances and parabens.
Avoid: make - ups containing parabens,
fragrances, binders and
synthetic dyes.
When it comes to detergents and stain removers, you'll want to
avoid petroleum - based
synthetic fragrances and
synthetic, nonbiodegradable dyes.
Avoid fragrances that use
synthetic and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that plug in, get thrown in the dryer, or are sprayed in the bathroom.
(FYI,
synthetic fragrances are the number one thing that the Environmental Working Group says to
avoid!)
So it makes sense to
avoid shampoos based on known irritants like sulphates,
synthetic fragrances and anti-dandruff agents as these may actually increase the flaking and itching of a sensitive scalp.
Avoid ingredients that have endocrine disrupting effects such as oxybenzone (found in most sunscreens), parabens, phthalates, and
synthetic fragrances.

avoid use of harsh chemicals,
synthetic preservatives,
fragrances, talc, aluminum, and the many other unhealthy toxins found in common foundations.
Next most

synthetic fragrances.
