award searches both before and after the new year for flights in May and June of 2015.
But in recent years, travel rewards experts have lowered their valuations of AAdvantage miles as the airline began requiring more miles for

seats available at the lowest mileage levels.
This used to be an absolute «secret weapon» when it comes to
award availability, given that there were often
at least first and business class
award seats available.
French Polynesia because they partner with both airlines flying from the mainland US to Tahiti (Air Tahiti Nui and Air France) and Australia because they partner with Virgin Australia, Virgin Australia has the best
award availability to Australia especially on the Los Angeles — Brisbane route, because those
seats are even
available at Delta.com now, and because they've stopped charging fuel surcharges for those flights as well.
On all other airlines in the survey, saver
award seats weren't
available on
at least some flights.
