Shout out to these
moms and dads and new little babies, we are in
awe of you all!
I am in
awe of the dedication
of midwives and personalized support they give... through educating
mom's and dad's, spending all the time that is needed to counsel and answer questions and talk through fears / concerns / triumphs, prenatal care that is better than you can receive anywhere, continous hands - on assistance through labor & delivery and loving postpartum care.
I think part
of it too is... And this is in general, my husband and
mom are just kind
of in
awe about how the whole process works and how all I have to do is lift up my shirt and two babies just come charging at me.

of times, for many different types
of births, and each time I am still in
awe of the strength
of laboring
moms and the beauty
of birth.
so with a few days off from work, i headed back to the mitten with the intention
of heading up to mackinac (pronounced mack - in -
awe) island with my
mom #girlstrip.
Which is really too bad because we have an urgent problem in America: our maternal mortality rate is among THE HIGHEST in the industrialized world (depending on the index you look at), our infant mortality rates are unacceptable, the inequalities in the way women
of color and poor women are treated is literally a human right crisis, our new
moms suffer from postpartum depression mores than so many other countries, and in many ways we have taken the joy and
awe out
of childbirth and infancy.
My little guys were
awed («
Mom, how is the table setting itself!?!), and my bigger ones are planning a slide show
of some yet - to - be-decided sort to get the same effect.
