You can make do with adult washcloths, but smaller, thinner
baby washcloths work well for small hands, faces, and bottoms.

I did make an exception in my
baby book for the Grandmother's Favorite blanket, inspired by the famous
washcloth pattern of the same name in which yarn overs are used to create the edging of a blanket
worked from one corner out and back again.
I did use
washcloths for
baby wipes but that did not
work as well as I wanted.
If you are in a pinch for wipes,
baby washcloths will
work great as well.
Some
babies are sensitive to
baby wipes; water and a
washcloth work just as well and may be a gentler option.
Then, using a soft
washcloth, wipe around your
baby's mouth, nose and whole face,
working from the middle outward.
To further build on those emerging fine motor skills, let
baby work on her grip with wringing out a
washcloth during bathtime, or squeezing a small squishy ball during playtime with you.
