Yes indeed, that stuff you put
on your hardwood floors to bring them
back to life works like a charm
on chalk painted furniture.
Even though this project isn't
chalk paint, maybe something in the paper (or glue
on the
back of it) causes the yellowing as well.
The compositions feature large clumps of broad
back - and - forth gray and white brushstrokes — think of whitewashed windows or rubbed - out
chalk on blackboards — through which wander black spray -
painted lines of varying thickness that suggest bent rebar or mangled wire coat hangers.
His potent
paintings of images that are often intentionally difficult to see — sometimes light
chalk on dark paper, or faint or dark
paint on black canvas — both embody the spirit of that moment and its embrace of controversial images taken from popular culture, and have a timeless mastery that may send you as far
back as Vélazquez for affinity of touch.
I'm going to use them for my coffee table... I have about three fourths of my General Finishes
chalk paint quart left so there's plenty of projects
on the
back burner!
I fall
back on my own version of
chalk paint made with baking soda.
I'm just beginning my journey with
chalk paint and took
on a big project of 5 1980's chrome framed with upholstery seats and
backs.
On the piece below, I used our American Paint Company all natural
chalk and clay
paints — a previous limited edition color yellow as the base layer, then a raised stencil using our Texture Plaster Neutral, over top (when dry) the popular APC color Shoreline, sanded
back (when dry) to reveal the pretty detail --
Even though the surface of this wood slice is
painted with chalkboard
paint the hand lettering was
painted on using the technique of printing it
on a piece of paper, rubbing the
back with a piece of
chalk and tracing it onto the wood with a pencil.
This is one big mirror (4 x 5) and I didn't feel like scrubbing
on a wax then going
back later to buff it out — the Topcoat Finish was a quick brush
on coat, one layer was enough to seal the
paint, leaving it matte, but still popping the true colors of the
chalk / clay
paints -
I went
back and forth
on how I wanted to
paint it: distressed with
chalk paint, sanded and stained, a combo of both or --
Looking
back where you just came from... My antique bench with a few
chalk painted pumpkins and some cutie pie photos of all my boys
on my Gallery Style Photo Board and Pottery Barn inspired Chalkboard Frames.
A hand - me - down buffet's original cherry finish felt a little formal for this Arizona ranch home, but with some matte
chalk paint, the item took
on a more casual look that set the tone for equally laid -
back vintage pieces, from the leather luggage (that stores extra blankets) to a coffee table made from an antique mission door.
Once the spray
paint on the knobs and the
chalk paint on the jewelry chest's drawer fronts had dried, I carried everything
back inside.
The next week I went
back to the shop in Macedon to purchase a quart of
paint to try out
Chalk Paint ®
on a small hutch that I had bought.
