It's not hard to give her some leeway early on (she is, after all, a grieving mother haunted by her own actions just before her daughter's horrific murder and left in a state of emotional and legal limbo by the lack of progress on the case), but by the end it's hard not to be sick and tired of the manner in which she constantly uses that as an excuse to dehumanize everyone around her, whether it be her surviving teenage son (Lucas Hedges), a local with an inexplicable crush on her (Peter Dinklage), or the aforementioned Sheriff Bill Willoughby (Woody Harrelson), who isn't so much
