I guess it could be argued that the market will weed out the
bad stuff, but really, self - published
books that haven't been
edited, fact checked, or proofed give this entire industry a
bad reputation.

Sure many self - published
books are
badly written, or
badly edited, or both.
The majority of
book editors are great at
editing but
bad at business.
Unless your
book is
badly edited, most blog hosts will post their reviews as soon as they finish.
EDIT: I don't mean that your
book is «
bad» — just that it may not have a story that appeals and satisfies enough readers to have it earn money.
It's the self - publishers who rush a
book onto the market with typos and
bad editing that make customers think twice before buying a self - pubbed
book.
At
worst, you'll get negative feedback which you can use to
edit and improve your
book, and at best you could get lots of positive reviews that will spur on
book sales.
If you receive a
bad review on Amazon or Goodreads etc for formatting,

editing or formatting — but I endorsed Becky's call for authors to polish their manuscripts to the highest degree before launching them on the world.

bad idea, and I can assure you every reader knows you skipped out on professional

I only see it used for the truly profit - mongering parasites that still charge thousands to bring a

But before I download even a free
book, I check page numbering to rule out novellas and read reviews to see if anything rules out this
book, i.e.
bad proof - reading /
editing, poor grammar, predictable plots.

bad review because he totally misunderstood the

Half the time the
books on these lists are garbage, leaving me to wonder how on earth they made these lists with such terrible,
