bag?
Many
of them wondered how they would handle the switch from
bagged, pre-torn
lettuce — dry and brown around the edges at times, but so easy to prepare — to whole heads
of romaine they'll have to wash and tear themselves.
Despite all the talk
of small farms disappearing, despite concerns
of big ag controlling our food, GMOing everything and dousing it all in RoundUp, driving past my farm one might feel a flutter
of relief, think there's a small farm right there where I can go and pick up a
bag of organic baby kale, spot a bluebird resting on a fig branch, notice a patch
of weeds growing among the
lettuce.
Disease - causing bacteria, including E. coli, usually thrive in moist environments, like
bags of prewashed
lettuce (SN: 12/24/16, p. 4).
Klein does not recommend, however, rewashing triple - washed
bagged lettuce because the extra handling
of these already clean greens could introduce new contaminants.

Apart from my regular photography kit, I came up with some DIY improvements such as the kitchen string to hold one

Keep these in mind next time you're deliberating between washed,
bagged greens or a naked head
of lettuce.
And there are continued outbreaks
of illness related to
bagged lettuce.
Meanwhile, a shopper may choose not to use a plastic
bag at all for a head
of lettuce, thereby obviating that part
of the packaging chain all together.
I make sure there's a batch
of granola for quick breakfasts, muffins in the freezer for
bag lunches, salad dressing in a jar, and
lettuce washed in the fridge.

lettuce E. coli outbreak
of 2018, Forbes writes
of the leafy greens: ``... it was harvested, put in boxes, shipped to another facility (or multiple ones), stored under refrigeration, washed, chopped, and then packaged in
bags that may include plain romaine or various salad mixes (that could contain other
lettuces or vegetables grown from other farms) that contained the romaine.
The reviewer was also taken with how their bill came in a brown paper
bag, printed with the «go local» rationale and also sporting a complimentary packet
of lettuce seeds.
But, soon that became the new norm, and now it would feel just as weird to grab a plastic
bag for each head
of lettuce or item
of produce.
