balance, it's
dynamic equilibrium.
The second one is that in hydrostatic
equilibrium, where the vertical gradient of total air is
balanced by gravity, the
dynamic power is only produced by horizontal pressure gradients (i.e. q = — u. ∇ p).
Most commonly I find the assumption that the radiative
balance and
equilibrium calculations (ignoring non-radiative transfer) are directly relevant to the
dynamic climate, to at least the first significant figure and at a short time frame.
Some models have the climate
balanced, and some students of climate say that one process or another tends to
dynamic equilibrium, but no theory supports these conjectures.
