When his pieces were initially exhibited by Castelli Gallery in the 1960s, Sonnier set a precedent for abandoning the rules of traditional sculpture, forgoing the pedestal to create
wall -
based works and trading traditional media such as bronze and marble for unconventional and psychologically loaded materials, such as cloth and
latex.
So I would clean the
walls gently and check for any peelings, then oil -
based Kiltz primer / sealer, then a high quality
latex top coat.
You don't want to get spray paint on your
wall, it's oil
based and that wont work if you need to paint over it with
latex.
I used wallpaper paste to adhere it to the
walls which were painted sheet rock, then after they were thoroughly dry, I painted over it with a water
based semi gloss
latex paint.
Do use wipeable
latex paints for
walls; don't use oil -
based ones, which are harder to clean (oil is more suitable for trim).
