Hosted by Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), the Forum is focused on addressing the key challenges in delivering universal energy access to the billion people globally who are still living without
basic modern energy services, such as electricity, and the three billion who lack access to clean fuels and technologies for cooking.
And with large segments of the developing world without access to
modern forms of
energy, Mr. Annan says that meeting the UN Millennium Development Goal (MDG) of halving, by 2015, the proportion of the world's population living on less than $ 1 a day would depend on providing these people with access to
modern energy services for their
basic needs and for income generation.
