Services Kathleen Sebelius discussed Archbishop Joseph Naumann's request that she not present herself for communion
because of her public support for legalised
abortion: «Well, it was one
of the most painful things I have ever experienced in my life, and I am a firm believer in the separation
of church and state, and I feel that my actions as a parishioner are different than my actions as a public official and that the people who elected me in Kansas had a right to expect me to uphold their rights and their beliefs even if they did not have the same religious beliefs that I had.
That means states can no longer vote to defund Planned Parenthood
because some
of its clinics offer
abortion services.
Those regulations will affect more than women's access to early
abortion care,
because most
abortion care providers offer a full array
of safe, affordable, preventive health
services, including breast and cervical cancer screening, STD prevention and treatments, and birth control.
In Congress, Pence was at the forefront
of a conservative effort to block any federal funds from going to Planned Parenthood
because the organization — which provides women with cancer screenings, counseling
services and tests — also provides
abortions.

of pregnancy options: parenting, adoption and

Yet, in spite
of these alarming statistics around cancer and STDs in New Jersey, on Monday Kim Guadagno stated that she would not restore funding for preventive reproductive health
services —
because providers like Planned Parenthood also offer
abortion services.
Some politicians claim that ending support to Planned Parenthood is related to
abortion services, knowing full well that
because of the Hyde amendment there has been no federal funding
of abortion services except for very narrow exceptions for nearly four decades — and that low - income women have been prevented full access to
abortion as a result.

of all U.S. abortions2 and focus primarily on
abortion care, and therefore do not typically offer a broad range
of reproductive health
services.3
Because specialized providers are not designed or often seen as sources
of comprehensive or ongoing care — whether for contraception or anything else — it can be all the more challenging for them to devote limited resources to offering more integrated care.
Because of an increasingly restrictive legal environment and clinic closures across the country,
abortion patients are facing new barriers to care, including the need to travel greater distances to access
services.2, 20 Overcoming these challenges can be difficult or impossible, especially given that 75 %
of abortion patients are low - income, and 59 % have already had a child and may have other family obligations.21 Whether a provider offers same - day contraceptive
services is irrelevant if a patient can not access
abortion care in the first place.
For example, many specialized providers do not accept insurance; 4 one common reason is that many
abortion patients pay out
of pocket
because they are unable or unwilling to use their insurance for
abortion care.5, 6 Specialized providers may also face unique hurdles to the extent that their model
of care does not already include clinic - based systems or regular training for offering contraceptive
services.
