The drawbacks of using
soap to clean cloth diapers are that,
because of its mild attributes, it may not thoroughly clean your diapers, and
soap reacts with minerals in hard water that can leave a
residue on the diapers causing them to be less absorbent.
Because Charlie's
Soap will eventually pull out
residue left behind from previous detergents on towels and clothing (if you use a different detergent outside of your cloth diapers) the other detergents could be leaving
residue behind getting on the cloth diapers and causing a rash / burn.
Because urine
residues are caused by not enough
soap, or not enough water to rinse clean, there are two ways to avoid urine
residues:
Natural
soaps contain oils and should NOT be used
because they will leave a
residue on fleece, causing it to repel liquids.
I can even use them on my daughter's cloth diapers and I get to skip a step (the extra rinse at the end)
because soap nuts leave no
residue.
I believe that is mainly
because I live in a hard water area, which causes the castile
soap to react with the hard water, hence the
residue.
