First Saturday of Summer vacation, and my son, who I can not drag out of
bed on a school day, was up at 6:30 am today.
Well, I'm sure there are lots of educators out there — and teenagers who'd welcome an extra hour or two in
bed on a school day — who'll be watching it with interest.

At the time, I was coming home from work to an always empty house, laying
on the floor for an hour to re-calibrate from my
day, working myself into a 30 minute or so run, and then reading a couple food blogs over dinner (usually a sweet potato, roasted during that run, with black beans, salsa, and a pile of greens), working another couple hours just to survive the next
school day, and falling into
bed into a deep and dreamless sleep before my alarm clock wrenched me out and up and into another
day that was much the same.
Sometimes the things that are hardest are the most intimate — a first - grader's secret fear of going
on the sports overnight because he still wets his
bed, a freshman just looking at himself in the gym mirror that first
day of high
school wrestling tryouts, or years later lying awake and breathing in for hours before rolling out of
bed to get
on a flight to Helmand province.
Chris says he keeps a tight domestic ship:

Before high
school, a child is not likely to fully appreciate that if she plays
on a select team she may often be practicing or going to
bed early, worn out after a hard
day of exercise, while her classmates are watching TV or socializing, or she may be getting up early, while others are giving their growing bodies the rest they so desperately need.
As moms, we have so much going
on every single
day:
school, sports, friend's houses, packing lunches, making dinner, cleaning the house, paying bills, talking to teachers, etc... If you are like me, when you get into
bed at night, you just lie there... awake... with everything
on your mind.
This is because all of the stolen moments that hubby and I count
on to get us through the
day (nap time, computer time while boys are at
school and baby plays quietly in baby - proofed area, early bedtime for kids, hot bath and wine after kids go to
bed) never happen because there is a flurry of fun activities that keep us from sticking to our schedule.
I was told that her best bet would be to put her in full time
school, to schedule every minute of every
day, to put her in her own
bed, to make her sit and eat at the table, to ignore her if she cries; the list went
on.
We struggle to get ready for
school each
day, out the door
on time and before you know it, it's time for dinner and
bed.

My activities
on an average
day could be boiled down to a flavorless mush: I went to
school, I came home, I took a bath, and I went to
bed.
She looked the same, I decided when I came home from
school on the
day of her discharge from the hospital and saw her in the new
bed.
That's very interesting and surprising but logical, audio books can serve as a very relaxing source of entertainment after a hard
days work heading back home
on the train or during unscheduled recess in the morning at
school when the library hasnt opened yet, it's also a good way of winding down when the children have been put to
bed and you just need an hour by yourself in the couch without a noisy tv with advertisements interrupting the welcome calm of evening.

The massively improved battery life of the current generation Apple Watch makes it much better for sleep tracking: you can now wear your Watch in
bed, pop it off while you get ready for work or
school and leave home with a full charge for getting
on with your
day.
On school days, it's hard to get her out of
bed.
I love your choices, and I hate to rain
on your parade, but I sure hope you have more patience that we had when we tried a
day bed for my daughter when she was in middle
school.
I've bought cheap folding chairs — I figured we needed new ones — and summer - weight sleeping bags — the kids are going to a lot of
school camps these
days, so it seemed more sensible than borrowing them — and I've spent $ 300
on food and drinks and another $ 300
on bed and board for the dogs at Hanrob.
