Ah yes, I've definitely noticed using raw beets in smoothies yields a much more
subtle beet flavor.
These brownies do have a
faint beet flavor, so if you have an aversion to earthy beets, applesauce might do the trick.
In this recipe the beets impart sweetness and a luscious moist quality, with nary a blast
of beet flavor to be found.
