Chris, who is the education chairperson at International Association
of Animal
Behavior Consultants and author
of the book Parenting with Pets, the Magic
of Raising Children with Animals, explains that in order to get a Canine Good Citizen certificate the
dog must show that it is comfortable and friendly with

How to tell if age is the issue: If you notice — along with a lack
of appetite — shifting sleep habits or
strange behaviors or vocalizations in your

dog's own safety), taught not to escape out the front door or out
of the yard or out
of the car when the owner looks away for just a second... all
of these things and many more are not «natural» canine
behaviors; they must be taught by owners who are willing to spend the time and the effort doing so.
