So how do you go from that reasoning to «Since it wasn't accidental then it must have been this ancient male diety named (fill in blank depending on religion) who loves me and knows me and cares for me and wants me to perform rituals that have nothing to do with morality like prayer, not eating certain things, sabaath and many more just because he said so, even though we have no record of him saying anything, just records of humans who wrote things down that they claim he said, but I want to believe it all so badly I will base my beliefs on no other evidence than «it just can't be accident».

It comes down to semantics here chad, I don't actively reject god, I just don't believe in religion.

Just like any religion there are different types of atheists, some simply don't believe in a «creator» or higher authority, but others use atheism as a shield of intellectuality, safely keeping them from feeling anything.

It's interesting to see how people will find their own truth, dig in their heals and be blind to any other idea... What would Jesus do is an interesting question... I consider my self a Christian and a spiritualist... because I believe it's just not as black and white as one religion or another thinks... there is way more grey area... but a fundamental truths that are a good rule to live life by, wether you are christian or not... treat others the way you want to be treated... do unto others... Conceding to believers that they can redefine the term «religion» to encompass «atheism», or whatever other ideas they wish to encompass within the word, if that suits their purposes in trying to put anyone who doesn't believe in their god or any god into the same category as themselves, grants to them the opportunity to dismiss anyone who doesn't believe in their god as holding a religious belief no more valid then their own and to classify you as just another follower of a «false religion» unlike their own, which is the «true» religion.

lngtrmthnkr, I'm actually inclined to believe in a higher power... just have some reservations about the literature and religion.

Im not talking about religion, or being religious, but believing in His word and applying it to your daily life, living it truly not by man's principle, but by God's Word, putting faith in Him just as a mother would to a babysitter who is going to look after her child, or just as you would trust someone with your money, or yet with your own life.
