Well Bob, let me try to be brief... the old testament is the history of the nascient people of Israel, and tells the story of the hammering process God used to mold them into His people... They frequently adopted the gods of pagans and idol worshippers, and the
OT describes how God so wanted them to be His people... So many of the old testament prophecies actually point to a coming Messiah.
Well, just as you think I am not reading certain
OT texts at face value, I think you are ignoring much of what these NT texts are saying, and not just these passages, but the whole tenor and focus of the ministry of Jesus.
Then we have the situation where to the
best of our knowledge Abraham and Moses did not exist putting the kibosh on the
OT.
I do agree that the innocence of God is not expressed all over the place in the
OT, but since I am trying to understand God in light of Jesus Christ, and since the innocence of Jesus Christ is expressed all over the place, then this is why I try to read this innocence back onto God as
well.

ot be healthily self critical and challenge one another to be the
best we can, done in dignity, humour in being willing to laugh at appropriate times at the silliness of things we do and the inappropriate things we do onece healed fomr such things.
The
OT was established by Jews, not by Christians, so voting on it would be to solidify that which already existed and that is precisely what was done with the New Testament as
well.

OT and the NT, we see that the Old Covenant was a covenant «in the flesh» (circumcision) whose members should have lived a righteous life on earth according to the (tangible) Law, whereas the New Covenant is a covenant «in the Spirit» whose members receive the power of the Holy Spirit to really live a righteous life according to the Law of Christ which is written on their hearts that have been circumcised as
