The problem with mimicking this scenario in modern times is that we are seldom in a situation in which we lack access to food and why stock away a few extra pounds by eating the extra fruit if it runs counter to both your body comp goals as well as the fact that you'll undoubtedly be able to eat the following day anyhow.
